Timber

Radiata Pine (Pinus radiata)

Sutcliffe Trading specialises in the supply of sustainably sourced Radiata Pine (Pinus radiata) from New Zealand pruned and structural sawmills.

Radiata pine wood is light coloured with an even texture, and a low proportion of heartwood where total treatment and modification of sapwood is always achievable.

Machining properties are equal or superior to many of the internationally traded softwoods.

Appearance Grades

For finishing and furniture uses, can either be clear of knots or contain minor blemishes and tight knots.

Dressing

Dressing is a fixed width lumber that has small tight knots present suitable for applications where additional visual character is required.

Manufacturing Grades

These grades contain large knots and blemishes which are removed by cross-cutting and ripping.

The resulting clear components are often finger-jointed and edge-glued to produce mouldings and furniture for reprocessing to produce shorter clear lengths with excellent machining, and gluing properties. 

No 1 Cuttings

No 1 cuttings are fixed width lumber that can be defected into short length clears. Each piece yields 70% recovery of 1 meter or longer.

No 2 Cuttings

No 2 cuttings are fixed width lumber that can be defected into short length clears. Each piece yields 70% recovery of 600mm or longer.

No 3 Cuttings

No 3 cuttings are fixed width lumber that can be defected into short length clears. Each piece yields 70% recovery of 150mm or longer.

Fixed width lumber that is a mix of cuttings grade pieces

Merch

A general utility grade allowing knots up to 1/2 the width of the board and may contain pith.

Industrial Grades

Grades contain a range of knot sizes compatible with the final use.

Used in packaging for various products such as pallets, packaging, cable drums, and concrete formwork.

Outdoor Products

A large range of outdoor timber products ideal for landscapers, builders and DIY.

Suited for the construction of decks, retaining walls, pergolas, and fences.

Outdoor timber products are CCA treated to various hazard classes depending on the intended use.

Hazard classes include H3.2, H4, H5, H6 as requested.

Structural Products

The main factor influencing a structural grade is the size and location of knots. Grades limit such defects to meet specified strength requirements.

Used primarily for construction where strength and stiffness are important.
